Summer reading challenge
The Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge Scotland encourages children aged 4-11 to visit their local library and read six books over the holidays, a time when traditionally literacy levels dip.
Run in partnership with The Reading Agency and Scottish libraries the programme encourages children to read for fun and to continue to develop this fundamental life skill. More than 40,000 children take the challenge annually reading over quarter of a million books in the process.
To celebrate the Roald Dahl centenary the theme for 2016 is the Big Friendly Read.
Our funding helps library services put on extra events to encourage more children into the library during the summer. We visited the Albert Halls in Stirling to celebrate and join in with their Roald Dahl themed extravanagza and Macastory performance and Falkirk Library's Messy Materials workshop .
